Cabarete sits on the country’s North Coast, but it feels worlds away from the polished resort corridors most travelers associate with the Dominican Republic.

The town’s rhythm is set by the water. Cabarete Bay brings beach-town energy and waterfront restaurants. Kite Beach is the center of the kiteboarding spectacle. Playa Encuentro is the early-morning surf move.

What ties it together is an international, athletic, sun-faded sensibility. This is a destination where breakfast conversations revolve around wind forecasts, where people arrive carrying gear instead of garment bags, and where even a non-surfer can feel the electricity of watching the water come alive.

Come for the defining Cabarete image: bright kites suspended over deep blue water, riders cutting across the bay, and spectators following the action from the sand. Best for energy, lessons, people-watching, and understanding why Cabarete became internationally synonymous with wind sports.

The easiest beach to fold into the rest of town. Come later in the day, when swimming, walking, drinking, dining, and watching the water begin to overlap.

Quieter, more private-feeling, and best treated as the decompression zone. Read the conditions rather than assuming calm resort water.

The basecamp breakfast and lunch table. Keep it light before a lesson or use it for the full recovery order after an early surf.

For dinner directly on Cabarete Beach, this is the sand-under-your-feet move. Come for the location, the night air, and the feeling of being unmistakably in a Caribbean beach town.
