Edition No. 31 — Ibiza, Spain
"The secret to Ibiza isn't choosing between the quiet moments and the loud ones.
It's discovering how effortlessly the island moves between both."
Welcome back, wanderers!
Ibiza may be Europe's most misunderstood island.
Mention it and most people immediately think of DJs, dance floors, and nights that end sometime after sunrise.
That version exists. But so does another Ibiza.
One filled with hidden coves, long lunches, rooftop pools, farm roads, open-fire dinners, and quiet mornings overlooking the Mediterranean.
The secret is that both versions are authentic.
This edition is about experiencing both.

Where To Stay
Nativo Hotel Ibiza: This is where the modern Ibiza story begins.
Inspired by the island's bohemian roots, Nativo feels relaxed without trying too hard. Natural textures, rooftop views, earthy tones, and a pace that encourages you to linger rather than schedule every hour.
It's the kind of hotel that understands luxury doesn't always need marble floors and velvet ropes. Sometimes luxury is simply having enough time to enjoy where you are.
Book it for: Travelers who want design, atmosphere, and easy access to both sides of the island.
Why it works: You're close enough to the energy but far enough away to hear the waves.
Skip this if: You're looking for a nonstop party weekend. Nativo shines brightest as a base for travelers who want to experience Ibiza's quieter side before deciding how late they want the night to go.
The Rooms
The Dreamer: Proof that not every great hotel room needs to make a grand statement.
Overlooking Nativo's central garden and pool, this light-filled retreat embraces the island's quieter side. Soft natural tones, handcrafted materials, and understated design create a space that feels unmistakably Ibiza: relaxed, warm, and effortlessly comfortable.
It's the kind of room you'll appreciate most in the early morning with coffee in hand or after a long day spent exploring hidden coves and beach clubs.
Why it works: Simple, calming, and connected to the rhythm of the hotel.
Good to know: Garden and pool views, high-speed Wi-Fi, coffee station, and configurations with double beds.
The Splurge
Rooftop Suites: If you're going to splurge, this is where I'd do it.
The rooftop suites take everything that makes Nativo appealing and simply give you more of it: more privacy, more outdoor space, and more opportunities to enjoy the island at your own pace.
Morning coffee feels quieter.
Afternoon breaks last longer.
Sunsets become something you watch from your own terrace rather than chase across the island.
Why it works: The greatest luxury in Ibiza isn't exclusivity. It's space.

Adults Only Rooftop Pool
Rooftop Pool 4 Adults
Every great Ibiza hotel needs a place where guests can slow down and simply take in the view.
At Nativo, that place is the adults-only rooftop pool.
Perched above the property with panoramic views stretching toward the Mediterranean, the rooftop feels intentionally removed from the pace below. Mornings begin quietly with coffee and sunshine. Afternoons unfold between the pool, a book, and another round of drinks that somehow arrives right on time.
This is where Nativo's philosophy becomes most apparent. The goal isn't to entertain you every minute of the day. It's to create a space where doing very little feels incredibly rewarding.
The adults-only setting gives the rooftop a distinctly different energy from many of Ibiza's larger resorts. The soundtrack is conversation, clinking glasses, and the occasional breeze rolling in from the sea.
What to order: A chilled glass of rosé, something light from the cocktail menu, and absolutely no plans for the next few hours.
Humo: Dinner Above The Island
Home Grill: One of Nativo's strongest arguments for checking in early and staying out late is Humo, the hotel's rooftop open-fire grill restaurant.
Perched above the property with sweeping views across Ibiza's eastern coastline, Humo feels like the kind of place that captures both versions of the island at once. The atmosphere is relaxed and unhurried, but the setting still carries a sense of occasion.
As the sun begins to set, the rooftop takes on a golden glow. Smoke drifts from the open grill. Glasses clink. The sea slowly disappears into the horizon.
Why it works: Great hotel restaurants can save you one dinner reservation. Humo earns one.
What to order: Anything touched by the grill. Fresh seafood, perfectly charred vegetables, and one of the Spanish reds from the wine list are the move.
Book it for: Your first night on the island.
Day One: The Slow Ibiza
Morning
Coffee by the adults-only rooftop pool. A quiet swim before breakfast. No rush.
The most surprising thing about Ibiza is how quickly it rewards slowing down.
Perched above the coastline at Nativo, the rooftop feels less like a hotel amenity and more like an observation deck for the island itself. Morning light spills across the water, the day's energy hasn't quite arrived yet, and for a brief moment Ibiza belongs entirely to the early risers.
Lunch
A long seafood lunch overlooking the water.
This is not the moment for a tasting menu. It's the moment for grilled fish, cold rosé, and an afternoon that quietly stretches longer than planned.
Afternoon
Explore hidden coves along the eastern coast.
The move is to leave space in the itinerary. Ibiza is best discovered accidentally.
Sunset
Cocktails back at Nativo.
Watch the light shift from gold to pink while the island starts changing gears.
Beach Clubs: Three Ways
One of Ibiza's greatest strengths is that no two beach clubs feel remotely alike.
Within a single afternoon, the island can shift from sleepy Mediterranean cove to polished coastal glamour to a sunset soundtrack that carries well into the night.
Cala Gracioneta: The Ibiza that locals wish stayed a secret. Tucked beside a small turquoise cove near San Antonio, Cala Gracioneta feels intimate, unpretentious, and effortlessly Mediterranean.
Bare feet are encouraged. Time becomes optional.
What to order: Grilled octopus and a chilled glass of Albariño.
Amante: Built into the cliffs overlooking Sol d'en Serra, Amante manages to feel both polished and organic.
It's one of those rare places where the setting genuinely lives up to the photographs. If Cala Gracioneta is barefoot Ibiza, Amante is dressed-up Ibiza.
What to order: Fresh catch of the day with roasted vegetables and a glass of local white wine.
Experimental Beach Ibiza: Salt flats. Flamingo-colored sunsets. Excellent cocktails.
Just enough energy to remind you that you're still on Ibiza. This is the bridge between the island's two personalities.
What to order: The signature watermelon cocktail and a seafood rice dish for the table.
Dinner Plans
These are the three dinner reservations I'd make first.
Casa Jondal: A beach restaurant that somehow became one of the most coveted tables in Europe. Elegant without trying to be. Luxurious without feeling formal.
What to order: Whatever seafood is freshest that day. Trust the kitchen and order an extra bottle of rosé.
Casa Maca: A Mediterranean dinner party overlooking Dalt Vila. Less beach. More countryside. More lingering over dinner while the city lights begin to glow below.
What to order: Anything from the wood-fired grill and a bold Spanish red.
La Gaia: Sophisticated, polished, and unapologetically ambitious. When you're ready to trade sandy feet for a jacket and a proper tasting menu, this is where you go.
What to order: The tasting menu.
🍷 Wine All The Time
Every destination has that one place where the night really begins. Not a beach club. Not a cocktail bar. A place where a great bottle can easily turn into dinner, and dinner somehow turns into a much longer evening.
For Ibiza, that place is Restaurante Seventeen Siesta.
Restaurante Seventeen Siesta: The kind of restaurant where the lighting is just right, the wine list is taken seriously, and nobody seems interested in rushing you through the meal.
What to order: Ask for a recommendation from the Spanish wine list and build dinner around it. A bottle of Ribera del Duero paired with grilled meats or local seafood is the move.
After Dark: The Other Ibiza
After a long dinner and one more glass than originally planned, Ibiza begins to reveal its second personality. The restaurants empty. The music gets louder. The energy shifts.
This is the Ibiza most people think they know. The reality is more nuanced.
Pacha Ibiza: Classic Ibiza. Timeless, glamorous, and still relevant.
What to order: An espresso martini.
Club Chinois: Velvet banquettes, dramatic lighting, and one of the island's most stylish crowds. More atmosphere. Less spectacle.
What to order: A champagne cocktail.
Hï Ibiza: Modern Ibiza at full volume. Even if electronic music isn't your usual scene, experiencing Hï once helps explain why Ibiza became Ibiza.
What to order: Vodka soda, plenty of water, and enough stamina to see sunrise.
Experiences
The best version of Ibiza isn't found on an itinerary.
It's discovered somewhere between the sea, the countryside, and sunset.
Snorkel The Secret Coves
Who to book: Arenal Diving Ibiza
Hidden beaches, sea caves, and some of the clearest water in the Mediterranean.
Horseback Ride Through The Northern Countryside
Who to book: North Ride Ibiza
Pine forests, dusty trails, and a slower side of Ibiza that feels worlds away from the beach clubs.
Charter A Boat To Formentera
Who to book: Ibiza Boat Charter
Turquoise water, long lunches, and one of the most beautiful day trips in Europe.
Bottom Line
Ibiza's biggest misconception is that it's only one thing. It's both. A wellness retreat and a nightlife capital. A barefoot Mediterranean escape and a global cultural phenomenon.
The best trip isn't choosing between the two. It's spending 48 hours discovering where they overlap. And that's exactly what makes Ibiza worth editing.
